Jet Airways India Ltd has announced India's first-ever domestic "kiosk check-in" facility from June 1, 2006. This new facility is available globally in most airports as it offers customers a seamless air travel.
Kiosk check-in, available for domestic flights, can be completed at Jet's kiosks located at the airport. This facility will initially be available at Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore airports and will be rolled out to other airports in a gradual manner.
At a check-in kiosk the system performs a name check, verifies the PNR, enables passengers to select their preferred seats and print their boarding passes using, the printer integrated with the kiosk, kiosk check-in enable passengers carrying only hand baggage to proceed directly for security. The kiosk performs thorough passenger identification through a valid swipe card (e.g. credit card, debit card, JP card) for authentication.
The check-in operates through the customised kiosk system with a dedicated and direct connectivity to the airline check-in system. For security reasons, the name on the swipe card and the PNR (reservation record) must be the same.
Gaurang Shetty, VP, marketing, Jet Airways, said, "Increasingly customers find self- service devices like bank ATMs very convenient, specially for repeat activity chores and the self-service kiosk is one such initiative where customers with hand baggage only can check themselves in and proceed straight to the boarding gate without any human intervention".
"The kiosk check-in facility will open immense opportunities and benefits for the Jet Airways frequent fliers" he added.
Jet says leveraging technology to promote customer conveniences not only reduces check in queues but lead to increased efficiency and help redeploy resources to deliver better customer service in other customer contact areas.
