Andhra Pradesh government order for Kirloskar Brothers

Pune-based engineering company Kirloskar Brothers Ltd has received an order from the irrigation and CAD department of the government of Andhra Pradesh, for the construction of pumping stations at Vasanthavada on the Peddavagu Project and the Bandarugudem tank, including electro-mechanical and hydro-mechanical works. The contrcat includes site development for the Indira Sagar Lift Irrigation Project (Polavaram). The contract value is Rs344 crore.
Kirloskar Brothers has been a major supplier to public irrigation and water management programmes, having previously secured orders for irrigation projects from the Andhra Pradesh government. The AP government has substantial plans over the next five years for the improvement of water supply, sewage treatment and irrigation in the state.
In 2006, the company had received orders worth Rs175.07-crore for water supply projects from the Kerala Water Authority. These were projected funded by the Japan Bank of International Cooperation.
Kirloskar Brothers'' projects and engineered pumps division, which has its manufacturing plants in Pune and at Kirloskarwadi in the Sangli district of Maharashtra state, contributed over half of KBL''s 2005-06 revenues, and is the company''s fastest growing division.
Increased government spending on irrigation and water management projects has boosted the division''s prospects.
In the year ended 31 March, 2006, Kirlosakar Brothers had an order book position of around Rs.1,200 crore. Of theis value, as much as Rs975 crore was accounted for by the projects division.
