The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd. (DFCCIL) has awarded aRs2,864-crore contract to engineering major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) to construct 222 route kilometer of a single-track corridor from Khurja to Pilkhani in Uttar Pradesh.
DFCCIL is a corporation under ministry of railways to plan and develop, mobilise financial resources and construction, maintenance and operation of the Dedicated Freight Corridors in the country.
The dedicated freight corridors project will be funded by World Bank (WB).
Khurja to Pilkhani route is a part of the 1,856 km Eastern Corridor proposed between Ludhiana (Punjab) and Dankuni (West Bengal).
L&T said on Friday its 'railways strategic business unit', a part of L&T Construction’s transportation infrastructure business has signed the contract with DFCCIL.
Five other major EPC companies, had bid for the contract.
This is L&T’s first EPC civil, structure and track project in the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor, though it has a 71-per cent share of the civil packages plus the entire electrical packages In the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor.
The scope of work includes construction of single railway track including yards, 75 major and 588 minor bridges, one rail over bridge modification, four rail flyovers, 21 stations along with construction of all associated works.
The project is planned to be executed using completely mechanized means of track linking using the latest technology in railway construction.
