XUV500 receives 5,000 plus bookings in a week, says M&M

Mahindra & Mahindra said its new XUV500 sport utility vehicle had grossed over 5,000 bookings across the five cities where it will be available.

The bookings for the XUV500 started in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai on 1 October.

The four-wheeler is India's first SUV developed on the the monocoque platform.

The vehicle comes with a price tag ranging from Rs10.8 lakh to Rs11.95 lakh and is the first offering from M&M on an international platform. The SUV had a South Africa launch a day after the India launch.

Speaking on the huge response to XUV500, M&M chief executive for automotive division Rajesh Jejurikar said it was a delight for the company that the XUV500 had garnered over 5,000 bookings in a mere six days from just five cities.

According to the company, the buzz associated with the launch of the XUV500 on social media had been phenomenal, with 1.5 lakh viewers watching the live launch webcast, while the website had so far received 8.5 lakh unique visitors (in two weeks) and 35,000 test-drive requests.
