Fire at M&M plant affects SUV production

A major fire at Mahaindra & Mahindra's production facility at Satpur, Nasik has affected production of its Scorpio and other SUVs. However, no employee was injured, fire brigade authorities said.
The fire that broke out in the early morning hours on Wednesday was contained after five hours, with the help of fire tenders from Nashik Municipal Corporation and the company's own fire-fighting unit.
''The fire though was contained to within the logistics area of Scorpio unit and within the plant premises. Importantly, there have been no injuries to any company personnel. As a safety measure though, the operations in the plant have been suspended for only the first shift of the day,'' M&M said in a statement.
The fire that broke out at 5:45 am was put out by 10:45 am, with the help of 25 fire tenders from the municipal fire brigade and fire tenders with the company, fire brigade sources said.
"The production loss in the first shift is estimated to be around 250 vehicles," the statement added.
''Mahindra & Mahindra follow the strictest safety protocols and adhere to all safety norms and processes laid down by the relevant Government Authorities,'' the company stated.
The company expects to restart production of the Bolero and Verito lines fully and the Scorpio line partially, from the second shift onwards, the company statement added.
