Maruti Suzuki to unveil new multi-purpose vehicle on 7 January
23 Dec 2009
Maruti Suzuki, India's biggest carmaker, will showcase its new multi-purpose vehicle `EECO' at the Auto Expo in New Delhi on 7 January, a senior company executive said today.
The Maruti Suzuki 'Joys of Life' pavilion will showcase the car that has been conceptualised, designed and finally developed in India for global market at the forthcoming Auto Expo 2010, which begins on 5 January, a company release said.
The vehicle, to be made available in 5-seater and 7-seater versions, is expected to initially sell 40,000 units annually, Shashank Srivastava, chief general manager (marketing) of the company, said.
Maruti Suzuki designers will also demonstrate the art of sketching various concept models at the studio setup sub-section of the pavillion.
A designer normally draws up more than 500 sketches between his first briefing and the time of finalisation of the design, the release noted.
A concept vehicle - to be displayed at the Auto Expo 2010 and a centrepiece at the Maruti Suzuki pavilion - had around 150 sketches on exterior and a similar number on the interior theme, before the final form took shape. The selected design is then reproduced life-size in clay.
The theme 'Joys of Life' is an extension of the theme from the last Auto Expo in 2008, where Maruti Suzuki focused on 'Colours of Life'. Both themes 'Colours of Life' and 'Joys of Life' are in resonance with 'Way of Life', the parent Suzuki Motor Corporation's global corporate philosophy, the release said.
Maruti Suzuki will showcase an array of 17 vehicles. The display will also include new launches, and cars such as the Suzuki Kizashi imported exclusively for the show.
