Maruti Suzuki launches CNG engine technology on five models

India's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki today launched its flagship CNG engine technology, 'intelligent-Gas Port Injection' or i-GPI on five popular models.
The CNG vehicles were unveiled by Jairam Ramesh, minister of state (independent charge) environment and forests at a function where senior government dignitaries and the Maruti Suzuki management team were also present.
The technology which is being launched in Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Gujarat, will be incorporated in SX4, Eeco, WagonR, Estilo and Alto models. The initiative will see the CNG footprint of the company extend across entry level cars, compact cars, sedans and MPV segments.
The CNG versions of the cars are priced 15-18 per cent higher than the petrol models, with prices ranging between Rs3.23 lakh and Rs 7.47 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
While the CNG version of the Alto carries a price tag Rs45,000 higher than Rs3.23 lakh of the petrol version, its mid-sized sedan
SX4 is priced Rs55,000 higher than the petrol version at Rs7.47 lakh. The Estilo with alternate fuel option has been priced Rs4.05 lakh, and the WagonR Rs4.11 lakh. The Eeco will be available for Rs 3.64 lakh.
