Maruti Suzuki sales vault 28.2 per cent to 121,952 units in March

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd today reported a 28.2 per cent rise in its March 2011 sales at 121,952 units against 95,123 units sold a year earlier. And, despite a crowding of carmakers in the Indian market, the Indian unit of the Japanese car major Suzuki continued to dominate the Indian car market with a 45 per cent share.
Maruti Suzuki's domestic sales rose 38.85 per cent to 1,10,424 units from 79,530 units sold in March 2010. Exports, however, fell 26.07 per cent to 11,528 units during the month from 15,593 units exported in the year-ago period.
Maruti saw sales in its A2 segment, which includes Alto, WagonR, Estilo, Swift, A-Star and Ritz, vault 43.27 per cent during March 2011 to 78,460 units from 54,762 units sold in March 2010.
Sales in the A3 segment, which includes the SX4 and DziRE, rose 33.07 per cent to 13,910 units in March 2011 against 10,453 units in March 2010.
The company, which entered the high-end car market in February with the launch of Kizashi luxury sedan, sold 103 units of the new model.
Sales of Maruti Suzuki's onetime workhorse Maruti 800, however, grew at a low 5.54 per cent year-on-year to 2,915 units in March 2011 against 2,762 units sold in March 2010, Maruti said in its statement.
