Other Suzuki plants crippled as workers down tools

The labour unrest at Maruti Suzuki's Manesar plant in Haryana on Wednesday spread to three other Suzuki Motors India. More than 4,000 workers at three units - Suzuki Powertrain India, Suzuki Castings (both in Manesar) and Suzuki Motorcycle India in nearby Gurgaon – went on a flash strike on Wednesday afternoon in support of the Manesar workers.
The workers declared an ''indefinite tools down protest until Maruti's Manesar issue is resolved''.
"All the workers of different shifts at these three companies have gone on strike since this afternoon in support of MSI's (Maruti Suzuki India) Manesar plant workers," Suzuki Powertrain India Employees Union president Sube Singh Yadav said.
Making things difficult for the Suzuki management is the fact that the striking workers are camping inside the plants.
Union leaders told The Economic Times that remarks of Maruti Suzuki chairman Osamu Suzuki to the effect that the management will not accept any indiscipline has sparked a strong reaction among the staff.
