15 Oct 2011
Tensions ran high at Maruti Suzuki India's Manesar facility today as around 1,500 police personnel entered the factory and asked the striking workers to vacate the premises as per the Punjab and Haryana high court order.
The workers, however, refusing to leave the factory said they would prefer to be forcibly evicted.
Meanwhile, the union of Suzuki Powertrain India Ltd (SPIL) claimed that the company had sacked 18 workers.
Suzuki Powertrain India Employees Union (SPIEU) and the rebel body of MSI's Manesar plant, Maruti Suzuki Employees Union (MSEU), also said that they would challenge the High Court order in the Supreme Court.
According to a worker inside Maruti's Manesar plant who spoke to PTI, there were around 1,500 police personnel inside the plant and they had asked the workers to leave the factory otherwise action would be taken against them.
He added the workers had decided to defy the court order and would sit inside the plant unless forcefully evicted. He said food supplies to the workers had been stopped since 7 am this morning.
