Mercedes-Benz India on Tuesday started the roll out of the all new C 220 CDI from its factory at Chakan in Pune.
The new locally produced C 220 CDI would now be available in all Mercedes-Benz dealerships across India at a price of Rs 37.9 lakh.
This increases the localisation content in the new C 220 CDI to 60 per cent. "The local production of the new C 220 CDI will continue the sedan's success story in the Indian market," said Eberhard Kern, MD, Mercedes Benz India.
"Additionally we have launched the 'Corporate Star Lease' product, a dedicated leasing solution from Mercedes Financial Services that will bring immense value for our potential corporate customers".
The C 220 CDI is powered by a 4-cylinder diesel engine having a fuel efficiency of 19.27 km per litre. Coupled with the large fuel tank capacity of 66 litres, it would give the customers freedom to explore places around them without making frequent trips to the fuel station.
The engine also features the ECO start / stop function which helps in saving fuel and reducing emissions.
The engine delivers 125 kW at 3000-4200 rpm with a maximum torque of 400 Nm between 1400-2800 rpm, the highest in the segment. The acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph takes 7.4 seconds with a top speed of 233 kmph.
The Chakan facility is among the top production facilities of Mercedes-Benz globally and has the largest installed capacity of 20,000 units annually. Production from the newly constructed and expanded facility is expected to commence soon.
The facility spread over 100 acres at Chakan and was set up in 2009 and counts among the fastest green-field operations ever to be created.
Safety features on the locally produced Mercedes-Benz C 220 CDI includes seven airbags, attention assist, tyre pressure monitoring system, Hill Start Assist, ESP, ASR, BAS, ABS and the German carmaker's Pre-Safe function.
Kern said he was delighted that the 'World Car of the Year', the new C-Class, would now be 'Made in India' at the company's production facility in Chakan, Pune.
"With the local production of the new C 220 CDI and in tune with its 'Make in India' commitment, Mercedes-Benz India has now an increased localization content of 60 per cent in this car. We are confident that with the production of the new C 220 CDI in India, we will be able to create a higher benchmark in terms of local production of high-end luxury cars in India, and make our customers equally delighted by providing an unmatched value," said Kern.
