Microsoft’s new Office software launches today

Microsoft Corp will be making the next generation of its Office software available to consumers and small businesses from today.
Office Home and Student 2010, the basic bundle of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote, is priced $150 which may be installed on as many as three home computers.
A version costing $280 comes with the Outlook e-mail programme while a $500 bundle additionally includes Publisher, a desktop publishing programme and Access, a database.
The prices apply to traditional packaged software but these are also available for download. Users can buy licenses called product key cards to download
the sets of programmes for $120, $200 and $350.
Also for the first time Microsoft is offering free web-based versions of the four core Office programes which will have fewer features than the desktop software.
Google Inc already has a similar set of free programmes that run in a web browser.
