Mastek to set up 5,000-seat facility in Chennai

Mumbai: Mumbai-based software solutions firm Mastek is all set to open a huge software development facility in Chennai to serve its overseas clients. The centre, employing about 5,000 people, would be Mastek''s largest so far.
The offshore development centre would come up at the Mahendra industrial park near Chennai, K Nagarajan, head of offshore business division of Mastek, said.
The company proposed to invest Rs200-250 crore in the next five years at the cntre, its chief financial officer Jamshed said. The center would initially be set up with 100 people and use rented premises, he said.
Mastek's facilities at Mumbai and Pune together currently employ over 3,200 people, he said. The centre cater the company's government and insurance clients, who formed the core of its business.
The Tamil Nadu government has opted for VAT from January 2007 and Mastek which has developed and is offering VAT software to several state governments see very good prospects in the state, he said.
