Mumbai: Microsoft Corp on Monday announced the launch of its Windows Live Messenger, an upgraded version of its Windows Messenger, even as Apple Computer Inc opened talks with studios in Hollywood for movie downloads via its iTunes Music Store Web site.
An upgraded version of MSN Messenger, the Windows Live Messenger offers VoIP as well as full-screen video chat using the new LifeCams introduced last week.
The new messenger offers shared search facility, enhanced built-in security and mobile messaging - even if the contact doesn't have a messenger account.
Through instant messaging which offers voice and video calling features that go head-to-head with the eBay's Skype, Microsoft's Windows Live Messenger is expected to corner a larger share of the growing internet telephony business.
Microsoft Windows Live messenger also allows people to connect, using e-mail, blogs and other services. The free, synchronized audio and video service allows users to view and talk to each other in full-screen video, offering service on a par with Skype.
MSN Messenger, with over 200 million users worldwide, has an edge over VoIP competitors like Skype because of the ease of use. Microsoft has also made available a beta version of Windows Live Messenger.
Meanwhile, Apple Computer and Microsoft are in talks with movie studios for bringing feature films online. However, pricing is seen as the main hurdle for a deal.
