Motorola to supply GSM infrastructure to Morocco

US telecom major, Motorola Inc., a global leader in providing integrated communications and embedded electronic solutions, won a significant order for the supply of Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) digital wireless solutions, to Morocco.
Maroc Telecom, a leading Moroccon mobile operator has signed a $47 million network infrastructure expansion deal with Motorola, under which the latter is provide the new generation of Horizon macro GSM 900 Megahertz base stations. These stations are slated for the popular tourist region of Marrakech and Agadir in the southern part of Morocco, as well as in the northern cities of Tangier, Tetouan, Fes, Meknes, Casablanca and El-jadida.
While Motorola already has an ongoing relationship with Maroc Telecom, this new agreement means that Motorola continues as a major base station supplier to the Maroc Telecom's GSM mobile network. ]
Motorola 'provides Maroc with turnkey services that include site acquisition, installation, integration and network optimisation. These services are to be provided by a dedicated team of Motorola digital wireless network operating system professionals.
According to Jeff Cherif, general manager of Motorola's Middle East and Africa Telecom Carrier Solutions Group, the recent agreement with Maroc Telecom is indicative of the growing demand for wireless services throughout the Middle East and Africa. Motorola has signed several such contracts with network operators as they prepare for entry into GPRS services and solutions for their customers.
