First 500 MW unit of NTPC's joint venture in Haryana goes on stream

National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) today announced the successful synchronisation of the first 500 MW unit of the Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Project at Jhajjar, set by its joint venture Aravali Power Company (P) Ltd (APCPL), with the national grid.
Aravali Power Company Private Limited (APCPL) is a joint venture of NTPC Limited, Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited, government of Haryana, government of Delhi and Indraprastha Power Generation Company Limited.
The project, situated at Jharli village in Jhajjar district of Haryana, it is one of the projects targeted to power the Commonwealth Games. NTPC has already commissioned two units of 490 MW each at Dadri for the Commonwealth Games.
NTPC has also signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of Punjab and the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited to set up 2640 MW (4X660MW) coal-based Thermal Power Project at Gidarbaha in Punjab.
Its first power project in the Punjab, NTPC plans to develop the project as a regional power unit.
NTPC, a Maharatna PSU, has an installed capacity of over 32194 MW. NTPC operates over 27 power stations. It is currently developing power projects of over 17,000 MW capacity covering 17 projects in 12 states. NTPC plans to become a 75 GW power utility.
