NTPC Q2 net vaults 30 per cent to Rs3,142 crore
26 Oct 2012
National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (NTPC), the country's top power utility, today reported a 29.63 per cent year-on-year increase in its net profit for fiscal second quarter ended 30 September 2012 at Rs3,142.35 crore against Rs2,424.12 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal.
Total income of the state-run power generator was up 4.7 per cent at Rs17,167.88 crore against Rs16,386.87 crore in the previous quarter, NTPC said in a statement.
NTPC attributed the gains to improved capacity addition, leading to higher generation and decreased raw material cost.
For the half-year ended 30 September 2012, the company's after-tax profit grew 25 per cent to Rs5,641 crore, from Rs4,499 crore during the first half of last fiscal.
Total income of the company grew 8 per cent to Rs34,012 crore in the April-September 2012-13 period.
''The high profit growth is attributed to high addition of generation capacity. A 660 Mega Watt (MW) unit at Sipat and a 550 MW unit of Simhadri have been commissioned in the second quarter,'' a senior official of the company said.
