Mumbai-based fibre reinforced palstic (FRP) boat manufacturers, SHM Shipcare, today said it had handed over the first set of three of 14 light-armed, high-speed FRP boats to ONGC at Nhava offshore.
Capable of day and night surveillance, high speed interceptions of intruder vessels, rapid insertions / extractions of marine commandos for anti terrorist operations, these boats will be deployed in offshore development areas.
The overall ONGC deal value for the 14 FRP vessels is around Rs168 crore.
Saifuddin H Hajee, managing partner, SHM Shipcare Group said, ''With this delivery we have become India's first private sector player to manufacture FRP light-armed high-speed vessels."
He said, SHM would extend the utility of these boats to other sectors like defence, patrol, coastguard, fishing, transportation as well as the mainstream tourism and leisure industry offering products and services "beyond the coastal home of India's borders".
