Mukesh Ambani meets PM, gets copy of CAG report
24 Jun 2011
Days after a draft report by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) said his firm got out of turn favours from the oil ministry and its technical arm DGH, Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani today called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
What was discussed at the meeting between the prime minister and Ambani is not known, neither has Reliance Industries (RIL) come out with any comments on the meeting.
Meanwhile, sources said copies of relevant portions of the draft CAG report, which RIL had sought, were provided to the company.
Earlier this week, RIL had written to the ministry saying that the reported comments had hurt the company's reputation. They also reflected a "complete misunderstanding of legal and contractual issues" RIL wrote.
RIL shares fell 8 per cent after the publication of CAG report in the media on 13 June. The shares ended almost flat today at Rs870.40 even though the BSE Sensex was up 513 points or 2.89 per cent.
According to officials in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the meeting between the PM and Ambani took place around noon but further details were not given.
Ambani, however, did not seek a meeting with oil minister S Jaipal Reddy who had earlier this week said the oil ministry would approach the draft report of the nation's top auditor with an "open mind" and give its response within eight weeks.
