17 Jun 2009
Reliance Mobile has tied up with the Hindi news channel Aaj Tak to provide its subscribers with video news alerts through MMS. The alerts will be provided twice a day on a Rs30 per month subscription.
Reliance Mobile is a wholly owned subsidiary of Anil Dhirubhai Ambani group (ADAG)
The news service can be availed by both pre- and post-paid customers on Reliance's CDMA and GSM networks.
Earlier this year Reliance had rolled out its CDMA wireless broadband service, Reliance Netconnect Broadband Plus, making it what it claimed the fastest internet service on mobiles.(See: Reliance Communications launches 'India's fastest' net service)
Commenting on the tie up, Reliance Communications VAS head Krishna Durba said, "We have seen large demand for news on the move. Subscribers want to be alerted on the breaking news. This service will ensure news coverage with multimedia pictures and video clips."
The service will allow a Reliance mobile subscriber to receive news alerts on national, international, business, sports, and entertainment events and happenings in video format, and the files will be sent as MMS clips.
Reliance Communications had earlier introduced a special news service offering live streaming of ICC World T20 matches.
According to Krishna Durba, the video news alert service will provide good news coverage with multimedia pictures and video clips.
For post-paid users the subscription charges will be included in the monthly bills, whereas pre-paid users will pay the charges immediately as deductions.
For people who are always on the move, the service will provide a quick and easy way to stay connected with the latest breaking news as and when they happen.
For subscription, Reliance users can send an SMS ''MSub N'' to 52424.
