Around 400 jobs to go at Rolls-Royce's Ansty plant

Nearly 400 jobs would go at Rolls-Royce's plant in Ansty, near Coventry, UK, with the aerospace giant looking to cut costs in response to government spending cuts.
The plant employs an 800-strong workforce to repair and refit engines for planes and boats, of which 378 were to be made redundant.
According to a Rolls-Royce spokesman, he hoped the company could avoid compulsory redundancies and was in consultation with trade unions.
According to Ian Waddell, an officer at the Unite union, the underlying reason for the job losses was the government's defence spending cuts.
The site is also a base for civil aerospace business which was not expected to be affected.
The British engineering titan in a warning said it was in discussions with unions over 378 planned job cuts at its Ansty site in Warwickshire, employing 800 people.
