Reliance launches JioMoney Wallet sans fanfare
11 May 2016
Reliance Industries' JioMoney Wallet has entered the digital wallet space with a silent launch of the app on smartphone app stores. The application makes it easy to handle all utility bills in one place, as it allows direct payment to major electricity and gas suppliers.
Users can also send and receive payments from and to friends and family. Insurance payments on most major banks are supported. There is a payment mechanism for major DTH operators as well including Big TV, DishTV, Airtel DTH, Tata Sky, Videocon DTH and Sun Direct.
The app can be used to recharge or pay for mobile subscription services. Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, BSNL, Uninor, Tata Docomo, MTNL and other operators are all supported.
The application supports payments from and to the Reliance ecosystem of products and services. The application supports payment to all sizes of physical stores. Payment to some online stores is also supported, including Groupon, Bookmyshow and Clarks.
JioMoney Wallet is available on the App Store and the Play Store.
The user interface is very basic and old fashioned, but that should make it familiar to people who have been using functional systems since the early days. Making the payments secure is one of the priorities of the application.
The menus are laid out in an easy to understand, logical manner, so navigation and payments are a breeze. The application has an integrated bar-code scanner for merchants.
