Sahara, UP government move SC again over Sahara Saher
24 Jun 2008
Mumbai: The Sahara Group and the Uttar Pradesh government today approached the Supreme Court seeking contempt action against each other for disturbing status quo in the Sahara Saher matter.
Sahara first moved the apex court seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against the Lucknow Development Authority for carrying out certain demolition at its property, saying it was in breach of the court's order.
The UP government soon filed a contempt plea against the group for erecting tin fencing around its commercial property - a matter on which the Supreme Court had ordered status quo yesterday.
A bench headed by Justice Altamas Kabir posted both petitions for hearing tomorrow. The bench said the matter would be heard only after the application is filed and the copy is served to the opposite party.
The Supreme Court had ordered status quo yesterday on a petition filed by the state government challenging the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad high court's order that restrained LDA from demolishing Sahara Saher and also asked it to restore possession of land to the company.
