Satyam bags fresh contract, but loses UN business

Troubled consulting and IT solutions provider Satyam Computer Services has secured a contract from leading dairy processor Vijay Dairy and Farm Products for implementing SAP business solutions, even as the United Nations has decided to discontinue all dealings with the scam-hit IT service provider.
''Throughout the system, various bodies of the United Nations will wrap up the contracts (with Satyam). The details of these may need some fine-tuning and may need to be worked out in coming months. But certainly all the contracts are being wrapped up. Some in the pipeline will be completed but it will all be shut down,'' a UN spokesman said.
Satyam, however, will implement the SAP All-In-One' business solution for Vijay Dairy and Farm Products, which will automate and integrate key business processes across the company, speeding workflow, improving quality, and lowering costs, Satyam said in a website release.
''Managing our supply – especially procurement and pricing – is a complex process that will now be greatly simplified. Stand-alone processes will be integrated for the first time, and we will be able to monitor product quality at multiple points during procurement and production, enabling us to deliver the freshest quality products to customers at lower costs,'' the release quoted J Madhan Mohan, managing director of Vijay Dairy & Farm Products, as saying.
''We selected Satyam for their unrivaled SAP credentials, their strong domain knowledge, and their ability to deliver a cost-effective solution in less time. Satyam also demonstrated excellent partnership abilities – especially to a small and mid-sized enterprise (SME) – and their successful proof of concept demonstration means lower risk and faster deployment,'' he added.
''Stand-alone processes will be integrated for the first time, and we will be able to monitor product quantity at multiple points during procurement and production, enabling us to deliver the freshest quality products to customers at lower cost," he said.
Once implemented, the solution will streamline procurement and accounting, ensure that returnable packaging are tracked, and provide complete information about the availability of products at different locations, the release added.
