Hyderabad: Satyam Computer Services. (NYSE: SAY), is partnering with OATSystems, Inc., a leading provider of software for the 'high-resolution supply chain' to provide comprehensive RFID-based solutions to its customers.
Satyam has been making strategic investments in the radio frequency identification devices (RFID) area including the deployment of proof-of-concept (PoC) applications. With this partnership and with its cross functional RFID consulting team, Satyam is set to scale up its own RFID and supply chain offerings including RFID readiness/impact, modeling, building return on investments (RoI) cases and systematic incorporation of RFID in manufacturing and retail supply chains.
"The supply chain space, particularly retail and defense as a vertical, will dominate in the use of RFID while manufacturing and auto industry would follow closely," said G. B Prabhat, director- consulting and enterprise solutions (CES), Satyam.
"The only way to speed up the development of these market segments is through building alliances with progressive and committed customer organisations and business partners that view RFID technology as a source of strategic advantage in the evolution of their worldwide operations. Our partnership with OAT systems is an important step towards strengthening our RFID solutions capability," he added.
OAT is the world's most widely deployed, standards-based RFID software platform. It powers the RFID networks of many of the leading retail, CPG, defense and pharmaceutical companies that are driving adoption of RFID in the supply chain. OAT is a complete solution for tracking inventory and product movement across the supply chain and the product integrates seamlessly with existing enterprise applications.
"We are pleased to have Satyam as a gold consulting partner," said Prasad Putta CEO, OAT. "Satyam's global reach, deep client relationships, and supply chain expertise make them an ideal partner for delivering OAT-powered solutions for customers."
As an OAT gold consulting partner, Satyam is well positioned to help customers deploy OAT solutions worldwide. Satyam also plans to develop repeatable solutions that will integrate with OAT EPC-IS Edge Server and other enterprise applications.
Satyam's RFID competency is part of the consulting and enterprise Solutions (CES) unit, which offers RFID-enabled solutions in the areas of supply chain management, logistics & transportation, asset tracking, access control, RFID middleware implementation and integration with ERP systems.
Wal Mart's mandate that its top 100 suppliers should be RFID enabled by 2005 has energised CPG and retail enterprises worldwide. The retail vertical at Satyam has been aggressively working to create an end-to-end offering. Satyam has internally initiated multiple projects across domains to validate some of the potential applications in this space. These are a result of interactions with leading customers and their plans.
