Satyam to hire 15,000 at Chennai

Chennai: Satyam Computer Services plans to expand its Chennai operations by setting up a world-class development centre spread across 100 acres, employing nearly 15,000 professionals. Satyam's chairman Ramalinga Raju disclosed this in Chennai.

Raju, who met Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday, informed her that the company wanted to develop a world-class development centre campus in Chennai.

The Satyam chairman also requested that 100 acres of land be allotted to the company to consolidate its operations in Chennai, a statement issued by the state government said.

The Hyderabad-based company has projected its exports from Chennai to grow significantly to Rs400 crore, it said, but gave no timeframe for achieving the target.

Jayalalithaa assured her government's support for Satyam and requested that the company also undertake developmental activities as part of its corporate social responsibility.
