Satyam Computer Services Ltd plans to extend its operations into Central India. It has signed a MoU with the Maharashtra Airport Development Company Ltd (MADC) to acquire a 100-acre plot at the special economic zone at Nagpur – the first large IT company to enter Nagpur.
Satyam's decision to create a facility in the city is in line with its decision of expanding operations to tier II locations, in order to avail the best local talents.
The Maharashra government is keen to attract IT investments in Nagpur. It is developing a special economic zone and plans to set up an international airport to increase its attractiveness for further global investments. Moreover, Nagpur also boasts a number of engineering colleges that could provide a pool of qualified manpower to companies wishing to locate there.
B Rama Raju, co-founder and managing director, Satyam Computer Services, said, "Our association with the state of Maharashtra goes back to 1997, when we had set up our campus in Pune, which started with 200 associates, and has today grown to 1500.
"Taking forward that momentum, we are delighted to be the first IT Company to be in the city of Nagpur, and are confident of the potential of the city which has good infrastructure and a huge talent pool. We are certain that with the support of the government of Maharashtra, we will be able to contribute in making Nagpur a great IT destination," he added.
