Siemens puts up greenfield steam turbine factory at Vadodara

Spread over an area of 6,500sq meters, the new factory will manufacture single stage and multi- stage turbines for industrial applications. All the components of steam turbines up to 45mw will be manufactures locally. In addition, this newly facility will also manufacture key components for steam turbines up to 150mw and provide after sales and repair services.
The project will provide direct employment to about 220 persons and will be on stream by December 2006. With sufficient area available for expansion at this location, the company plans to double the manufacturing capacities in the second phase.
The factory will cater to the domestic market below 150mw and also supply turbine components to group companies'' facilities in Europe. The company says it would also establish this facility as a centre of competence for smaller steam turbines conforming to international standards.
J Schubert, managing director, Siemens Ltd, said, "From a humble beginning of a small workshop under the Mahalaxmi Bridge fifty years ago, to 15 state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities is a successful journey accomplished. En-route, we have achieved manufacturing excellence." He further added, "Right from the beginning, we believed in creating local value-add and generating employment. Fifty years of manufacturing activities is a clear testimony of our commitment and deep-rooted association with India."
