New Delhi: Indian auto major Tata Motors has said that its new Indica, which is due to be launched some time during the second quarter of the next fiscal will have a choice of four engine options. Two of these engines will be sourced from partner Fiat.
According to S Ravishankar, Tata Motors senior general manager for engineering systems, the new Indica would sport Fiat's multijet diesel and also its 1.2 litre petrol engine. The price for the Indica sporting Fiat's multijet engine is yet to be finalised. He was speaking at the Auto Expo '08, and said that another two variants would have the indigenously developed 1.4 litre DICOR diesel engine, and a 1.2 litre petrol engine.
Fiat has introduced a diesel variant of its hatchback Palio Stile, which sports a 1.3 litre multi-jet diesel under its hood. The company has partnered with Maruti Suzuki to produce the same diesel engine for the latter. Maruti Suzuki India uses the engine in the diesel variant of its popular premium hatchback Swift.
The new engine for Indica and Palio would roll off the assembly line at the new Tata-Fiat joint venture plant in Ranjangaon in Maharashtra. The new Indica carry a higher price tag than the one on the present range.
