Tata Motors has slashed vehicle prices between 12,000 and Rs60,000 across the board to pass on the benefit of the reduction in central value-added tax (CENVAT) to customers, for both passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles.

The prices of passenger cars (Indica and Indigo family) will be reduced between Rs12,000 and Rs23,000 depending on different models, Tata Motors said in a website release.

Prices of utility vehicles Safari and Sumo family will be cut by Rs16,000-36,000, while light commercial vehicles will be cheaper by Rs17,000-23,000.

Prices of medium and heavy commercial vehicles have been reduced between Rs30,000 and Rs60,000.

The new prices along with the schemes became effective from Monday and will be available at all Tata Motors outlets across the country, the release said.

Other automakers, including Ford, Skoda and TVS Motor, have also announced price cuts across their vehicle models in response to the 4 per cent reduction in CENVAT rates.

Skoda India cut prices between Rs12,500 and Rs51,500 across all models.

Ford India slashed prices up to Rs54,000. While it cut prices of its premium hatchback Fusion by Rs18,500, mid-sized sedan Fiesta by Rs21,000- 25,000, its sports-utility vehicle Endeavour will be cheaper by Rs47,000-54,000.

TVS Motor Co, India's third-biggest motorcycle maker, has cut prices across categories by Rs700- 2,000. The revised prices have come into effect from Wednesday morning.
