20 Sep 2010
Tata Motors, India's largest automobile company, is planning to offer its customers Nano Plus, a Nano variant in 2011.
The improved version Nano Plus will feature a powerful 1000 cc engine instead of the 623 cc engine of the current Nano model and sport ABS, alloy wheel, integrated music system and improved interiors.
Nano Plus seems to be designed on lines of the Nano Europa and is likely to compete with the Maruti Alto and Chevrolet Spark. However, the price details as also other details of features are yet to be revealed. According to Tata Motors, the Tata Nano Plus will hit the market in 2011.
Tata Motors created history with its launch of the Nano the cheapest car in the worlds in March 2009.
Taking the cue, global vehicle manufacturers have been quick to develop their own low-cost cars to tap the growing market for the vehicles in especially in India and China.
However, analysts are wondering how the efforts of the companies to develop small cars will pay off in the long run. The case for development of low-cost cars in India ahs been generally strong given the fact that the Indian consumer is highly cost conscious, and considers not only the retail price of the car but also a host of other factors including fuel efficiency and running costs while making his purchase decisions.
