Tata Motors reports four per cent fall in global vehicle sales

Tata Motors, India's largest automobile company, reported a four-per cent decline in global vehicle sales on Monday. Global sales of vehicles, including Jaguar Land Rover, added up to 103,656 units in September, down by four per cent compared to the same month last year.
The company reported cumulative sales of 579,037 units for the fiscal, which was eight per cent higher as compared to the corresponding period in 2011-12.
Global sales of commercial vehicles – Tata, Tata Daewoo and Tata Hispani Carrocera range – were placed at 54,761 units, three per cent higher than the figures for September 2011. Cumulative sales of commercial vehicles were at 283,546 units, higher by two per cent.
Tata Motors said global sales of all passenger vehicles added up to 48,895 units in September, down 11 per cent over year-ago figures. Cumulative sales though were up by 14 per cent at 295,491 units.
Tata passenger sales were down by a sharp 17 per cent at 22,434 units, while cumulative sales for the fiscal were up by four per cent at 134,597. The company sold 26,461 vehicles under the JLR brand, four per cent lower than in September last year. It sold 2,808 Jaguars in September (and 21,606 cumulatively during the fiscal), while Land Rover sales added up to 23,653 and 139,288 vehicles respectively.
Tata Motors, which reported consolidated revenues of Rs1,65,654 crore ($32.5 billion) in 2011-12, has operations in the UK, South Korea, Thailand, Spain and South Africa, through subsidiaries and associate companies. It also has an industrial joint venture with Fiat in India.
