27 Nov 2012
Tata Motors has introduced its passenger cars - two sedans and a hatchback - in Bangladesh, a market where the company had first launched its buses 40 years ago.
The Tata group company has launched its compact sedan Indigo eCS, luxury sedan Indigo Manza and Indica Vista hatchback in the country. To begin with, these passenger cars will be available in a showroom Dhaka.
The company intends to launch one showroom each in three cities by 2013.
''Our 40-year association with Bangladesh has given us an insight into the aspiration of the country's motorists. They will be central to our business – we will delight them with the performance of our cars and the comfort and excellence of our service, and establish ourselves as we have in commercial vehicles since 1972,'' Karl Slym, managing director, Tata Motors, said.
According to Johnny Oommen, head, international business, passenger cars, ''Bangladesh's customers for new cars demonstrate high discernment. They will see that reflected in our cars. Our service will be easy-to-reach and prompt.''
Tata Motors has a 40-year relationship with Bangladesh, having introduced its buses in 1972. There are about 53,000 Tata commercial vehicles on Bangladesh roads.
The company is the commercial vehicles market leader with a 70-per cent market share.
