''Zest has been engineered for global customers, by global teams across India, the UK, Italy and Korea. The car comes with 29 features those are first in the segment, and we are confident it will delight our consumers with its design, driving pleasure and great connectivity features,'' said Ranjit Yadav, president (passenger vehicles business unit) at Tata Motors.
The company is offering a three-year or 1-lakh km (whichever is earlier) warranty, a three-year or 45,000km annual maintenance contract and a free 24X7 roadside assistance service for three years. The Zest is being manufactured at Tata Motor's Pimpri and Ranjangaon Plants in Pune, on a completely modified X1 platform.
This is the first car from Tata Motors in the past four years, even as the company is gearing up to launch its next car, the Bolt.
The company now intends to launch two new cars every year under its Horizonext programme, under which the company will focus on products, manufacturing practices, quality of service and enriched customer purchase experience.
Under Horizonext, Tata Motors has planned a well-defined portfolio of products till 2020.
''Zest is the first vehicle from Tata Motors that clearly exemplifies the Horizonext themes of intense product focus, world-class manufacturing quality, enriched purchase experience and consistent quality of service for its passenger vehicle business,'' Yadav added.
The Zest petrol comes with Revotron 1.2T engine, the first from the new family of gasoline engines being developed by Tata Motors. The engine, a turbocharged multi-point fuel injection, has undergone over 300,000 hours of rigorous developmental and research testing.
The Zest diesel comes with a 1.3-litre Quadrajet engine coupled with the F-Tronic technology-enabled, 5-speed automated manual transmission, with both automatic and sequential mode of gear-shifting. The engine was developed in collaboration with Magneti Marelli, Italy.
Both petrol and diesel powertrains are BS-IV compliant and are capable of meeting future norms, he added.
Customers can book the vehicle by making a Rs21,000 payment online or at a Motors dealership.
