Land Rover to launch new Road Rover in 2019: reports
26 Sep 2017
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) plans to launch a new range of models, called the Road Rover, by 2019, according to Autocar UK. The all-electric luxury car will be offered in markets such as China and the US and will be the first production-spec model in the new Road Rover range.
The luxury car will take on the likes of Mercedes –S class in terms of luxury. It will also boast of off-road capability. As implied in the name, the model will also be tuned to perform well on-road by taking advantage of the potential offered by the electric motors.
The model may be showcased for the first time at the 2019 LA motor show, with an official launch set for early 2020.
According to commentators, over time the Road Rover line-up may be expected to develop into a series of more car-like and road-friendly, but still rugged, vehicles.
The Road Rover can be traced back to the Land Rover's past, which was an experimental model in the early 1950s proposed to bridge Rover cars and the original Land Rover.
According to commentators, beyond speculation there is little formal information about the new model range as JLR has been extremely secretive about the development.
