Tata Motors on Wednesday officially revealed that its new SUV concept H5X, which was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo, will be called Harrier SUV upon launch in early 2019.

The new Tata Harrier premium 4x4 SUV is set for launch in India in the first quarter (Jan - Mar) of 2019.
The Harrier is based on the Jaguar Land Rover entry level SUV platform on which the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Jaguar E-Pace are also based. Tata’s version is called OMEGA – Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced Architecture. It will be made of cheaper materials and components so as to ensure lower prices.
Tata Harrier combines sleek but robust looks and dynamism, in terms of styling, technology and performance capabilities. "It marries an extremely robust architecture to the future facing design language, making ‘Tata Harrier’ luxurious yet practical, comfortable yet versatile and power-packed yet easy to drive," Tata Motors said in a release.
Tata Harrier will be seen with a slim front grille, contoured side profiles, a raked roofline and large wheels. Even on the inside, the car will have features which have never been seen before in a Tata car.
In terms of exterior design, the new Tata Harrier will be seen with Tata’s Impact Design 2.0 as was showcased at the 2018 Auto expo. Tata has said that the production-ready variant will retain 85 per cent parts and looks of the concept H5X.
“Tata Harrier’ is the first vehicle to sport the ‘IMPACT Design 2.0’ philosophy. It will offer extraordinary exterior design, thoughtfully and intelligently designed plush interiors, future ready connectivity and best-in-class infotainment,” the release stated.
"With Turnaround 2.0 into play, we are geared to win sustainably in the market. We are proudly speeding towards our next market introduction – ‘Tata Harrier’, yet another game changer, to offer our customers a product, that is not only exciting but that which will take our brand value to the next level. With legendary pedigree running through its veins, ‘Tata Harrier’ promises to shatter all current benchmarks and pave entirely new standards for SUVs in India,” Mayank Pareek – president of Tata Motor’s passenger vehicle business unit, said while announcing the name of the much-anticipated SUV.
The Harrier will enter production at the Tata production unit in Chakan, Pune. It will be powered by a MultiJet II engine from FCA which also powered the Jeep Compass. This engine will be presented in two states of tune. On the 5-seater version, the engine will offer 140 PS peak power going up to 170 PS peak power on the 7-seater variant. The engine will be mated to new manual and automatic transmissions. Both transmission options will be offered with 2WD as well as 4WD.
Once officially launched, Tata Harrier will compete with the Jeep Compass and Hyundai Creta in India.
Tata Motors also launched the Harrier website, which has also revealed a few teaser photos, videos and the official website of the Harrier SUV. Based on the company’s all new OMEGA platform, which is a completely revised Land Rover Discovery platform, Harrier will be the toughest and most capable Tata SUV till date.
