28 Jun 2010
Tata Power, India's largest private sector power utility and a leading wind power generator with an installed capacity of 200 MW, today added a new first to its credit with the successful commissioning of 2 MW-class wind turbines.
Designed by Kenersys GmbH of Germany and manufactured and installed by Kenersys India, a venture of Kalyani Group, the turbines were commissioned in September 2009 and have been operating successfully since then.
After completion of the first phase of 10 MW based on the 2 MW Kenersys turbine at the wind farm at Amberi and Visapur in Satara district in Maharashtra, Tata Power has started a second phase of 88 MW, the release said.
The company is in the process of acquiring 20.95 MW operating wind assets in Maharashtra from Niskalp Energy Ltd. It will also shortly place an order for 150 MW wind capacity to be set up in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu and to be commissioned during the course of this year and next year.
Tata Power proposes to substantially enhance its green energy generation through various renewable opportunities, including a substantial presence in wind power, it said.
"The company is progressing as planned on the path of renewable energy and today around 20 per cent of the power generated is from 'clean' sources, which we will increase to 25 per cent in 3-4 years. Today our wind portfolio is 200 MW and going forward we intend to add substantially to our renewables portfolio, Prasad Menon, managing director of Tata Power, said.
