Tata Power reports 92% capacity utilisation at Costal Gujarat project

Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company, today announced 92 per cent utilization of generating capacity at its Coastal Gujarat Power Limited (CGPL) and 38 per cent capacity utilization at its Maithon Power Limited (MPL) compared to FY13.
Power generation at Tata Power's Coastal Gujarat Power Limited (CGPL) increased to 23,928 million units (MUs) of power in FY14 against 12,440 MUs in FY13, with all 5 units becoming fully operational.
Tata Power's Maithon Power Ltd (MPL) generated 6,328 MUs in FY14, against 4,588 MUs generated in FY13, a company release said.
For the Quarter ended 31st March 2014, generation of CGPL increased from 6,039 MUs in Q4 FY13 to 6,800 MUs in Q4 FY14 whereas generation capacity at the Maithon Power Plant increased from 1,514 MUs in Q4 FY13 to 1, 653 MUs in Q4 FY14.
Generating capacity at CGPL and MPL increased by 13 per cent and 9 per cent, respectively, during the quarter.
Tata Power, which has an installed gross generation capacity of 8560 MW, is also one of the largest renewable energy players in the country with significant capacity in wind and solar.
The company aims to generate 18000 MW and 4000 MW of distribution at the two power plants and secure 50 MTPA of fuel resources by 2022.
CGPL is the wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power and has successfully developed India's first operational 4000 MW Mundra UMPP currently catering to 2 per cent of India's total power needs. The project is among world's largest greenfield thermal generation projects and is most efficient and fully operational thermal power plant of the country today.
CGPL supplies power to five states namely Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab and Maharashtra in the country.
MPL, the 74:26 joint venture between Tata Power and Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) has a total capacity of 1050 MW. It is the first successful public-private partnership in green field generation project in the country.
Speaking on the development Anil Sardana, managing director of Tata Power, stated, ''We at Tata Power aim to generate 18000 MW by 2022. All our generating units have performed well. It gives us great pride to be the largest integrated power company in India. We will continue in our endeavors to further strengthen our operations and optimally utilise our resources to achieve the set targets''.
Tata Power's Mundra UMPP was completed in a record time of 1 year from the date of commissioning of the first 800 MW unit in March 2012. An 800 MW supercritical and environment friendly boiler technology has been also deployed at the plant. The boiler technology enables saving fuel and cut down the greenhouse gas emissions as compared to regular coal-fired power stations.
MPL has signed the power purchase agreements and power evacuation arrangement has been put in place by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited. In addition to supplying power to DVC, power from MPL will be exported to power deficit northern states of India.
