Orissa moves ahead with steel projects

Bhubaneswar: A review of the state steel and mines department of the Government of Orissa has pointed out that even though big ticket steel projects of international steel majors, such as those of Posco-India and ArcelorMittal, may be laggard, projects of domestic companies such as Tata Steel, Bhushan Steel and Jindal Steel & Power are moving ahead satisfactorily.

Bhushan Steel's 3.30 mtpa (million tonnes per annum) steel plant at Meamundali in Dhenkanal district has been set up with an investment of Rs5,828 crore and has already commenced production.
Tata Steel is now taking possession of land for its 6 mtpa steel project at Kalinganagar Industrial Complex, near Dubri in Jajpur district. The company has placed orders for equipment for the project and has commenced fabrication work.
The project is being set up at an investment of Rs15,400 crore.
With the project running into controversy at one point of time over land acquisition issues, matters are now progressing well with most displaced families being settled in the rehabilitation colony.
