25 Feb 2011
Toyota Motor, the besieged Japanese car maker yesterday announced that it will recall 2.3 million vehicles in North America to fix floor mat and carpet covers that could them to accelerate unexpectedly.
The latest recall brings the worldwide recalls by the world's largest carmaker to more than 12 million since late 2009.
After recalling nearly 5.3 million vehicles over accelerator-pedal entrapment, Toyota yesterday made three separate recalls totalling 2.3 million vehicles to fix the same problem that has dogged the company since the past 16 months.
Toyota has now issued the following recalls:
Toyota will recall 20,000 2006 and early 2007 Model Year GS 300 and GS 350 All-Wheel Drive vehicles to modify the shape of the plastic pad embedded in the driver's side floor carpet.
In the event that the floor carpet around the accelerator pedal is not properly replaced in the correct position after a service operation, there is a possibility that the plastic pad embedded into the floor carpet may interfere with the operation of the accelerator pedal.
