Toyota to recall 422,509 Lexus over fuel leak
22 Nov 2014
Toyota Motor Corp will recall 422,509 of its luxury brand Lexus vehicles in the US over potential fuel leaks, which will increases the risk of fire.
Toyota will recall Lexus LS from model years 2007 to 2010, Lexus GS from 2006 to 2011 and Lexus IS from 2006 to 2011.
US regulator, The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said there is a possibility of fuel leaking where the fuel pressure sensor is attached to the fuel delivery pipe, which may cause a fire in case of a spark.
Toyota said that the cars' fuel lines have nickel phosphate plating to protect against corrosion. Some lines could have been built with particles coming in contact with a gasket, which can cause the sealing to deteriorate and trigger fuel leaks.
The Japanese carmaker said that no fires or injuries have been reported due to this fault.
Toyota said it will notify owners of these models and that dealers will repair the gasket seating surface free of cost.
