Mumbai: Tata BP Solar has entered into an agreement with Tata Agrico for distributing solar products in the rural and semi-urban markets.
Tata Agrico, a division of Tata Steel, will leverage its extensive distribution network in the country to promote the solar products of Tata BP.
The products would include solar lanterns, street lights and water-heating systems, the companies said in a press release.
The agreement is mainly aimed at consumers who are deprived of regular electricity supplies owing to poor infrastructure, the release said.
The companies see a huge potential in both rural and semi-urban markets for solar products and will start their partnership in Bihar, following it up with a nation-wide roll-out, the release added.
Tata BP Solar, meanwhile, is investing close to Rs1,700 crore for setting up solar PV cells and modules, with a unit in Bangalore.
