Tata Sons appoints James Shapiro as resident director, North America

Tata Sons, the holding company of the salt-to-software Tata group, has appointed James Shapiro as resident director in North America. Shapiro, a senior financial services executive with wide experience in international markets and regulatory issues, will facilitate the Tata group's future growth in North America.
The North America office reports into Madhu Kannan, member of the group executive council of Tata Sons, the company said in a statement.
Prior to joining the Tata group, Shapiro worked with the Bombay Stock Exchange and later as an adviser based in New York, where his responsibilities included global business development and BSE's global partnership with Deutsche Boerse and S&P Dow Jones Indices.
Shapiro's earlier experience includes several years in investment banking at Galileo Global Advisors, a cross-border M&A advisory firm based in New York, and 16 years at the New York Stock Exchange in various senior roles, including four years running the Asia business for the NYSE, based in Tokyo.
Shapiro, a graduate from Harvard University, holds a Masters degree and M.Phil in Economics from Yale University.
Tata group has operations in more than 100 countries across six continents and employs 581,470 people. The group exports products and services to over 150 countries.
In June, Tata Sons appointed Sunil Sinha as resident director, Middle East and North Africa region and announced plans to establish an office in Dubai in collaboration with Tata International Ltd.
