Toyota to unveil hybrid auto-fuel technology in New Delhi

New Delhi: Auto major Toyota is displaying its first mass produced hybrid vehicle Toyota Prius, which runs on both petrol and electricity, at the International Engineering Trade Fair (IETF), which commences at New Delhi today.
According to reports, Toyota''s Prius is an eco-friendly vehicle, which can run either on petrol or electricity or a combination of both, providing the owners twice the fuel efficiency over a conventional petrol powered engine, Toyota said in a statement.
"The Prius today accounts for 80 per cent of the hybrid vehicle sales across the world...We are happy to display the latest in global automobile technology at the IETF," Toyota Kirloskar Motor managing director A Toyoshima said in the statement.
Toyota had launched Prius in late 1997 in Japan. The company sold half million units of Prius in 2006 and it is planning to extend the Toyota Hybrid System (THS) technology to its existing models in the Toyota and Lexus lineups, it said.
