CBI questions Videocon's Dhoots over Datacom in 2G scam
22 Feb 2011
The CBI yesterday questioned Videocon group chairman Venugopal Dhoot and his brother and Rajya Sabha MP Rajkumar Dhoot.
The duo were quizzed in connection with the probe into the allocation of 2G spectrum. The investigations pertain to Datacom Solution Pvt Ltd which was granted licences in 2008.
CBI officials say the brothers were asked to present themselves at the CBI headquarters and were questioned for over seven hours.
According to an unnamed CBI official quoted by The Indian Express, the two were questioned in connection with the grant of licences to Datacom Solutions. They were also confronted with documents concerning change of share capital from Rs1 lakh to Rs150 crore.
The change in the share capital not only saw the company becoming eligible but also standing at a better position in many circles on the DoT's policy of first-come-first-serve.
Referring to a statement by Videocon's company secretary to the Department of Telecom claiming change in the share capital, CBI officials asked the Dhoot brothers to explain the minutes of the meeting of an extraordinary general body of the company held on 27August 2007.
