Voltas partners Besseling for post-harvest storage solutions

Mumbai: Voltas Ltd has entered into a strategic alliance with the Netherlands-based Besseling group to deliver turnkey solutions for storage of horticulture produce in controlled atmosphere (CA). The company will be Besseling''s sole representative in India for ultra-low-oxygen (ULO) storage technology.

"Serving the nation through adaptation of the latest technology has always been close to the heart of Voltas. For over five decades, Voltas has developed core competence in offering AC & R solutions to various applications," said Ravin Sanghavi, assistant chief of Voltas''s new business wing. "The combination Besseling-Voltas offer is the best post-harvest solution for long-term storage of fruits and vegetables," he added.

The Voltas-Besseling alliance has tremendous scope. The opportunity for post-harvest solution is huge considering the scale and size of the storage solutions market in India, which is as large as Rs5,000 crore. Changing consumer lifestyle and growth of organised retail along with favourable government legislation has provided a further impetus for growth.

The company plans to target a sizeable chunk of this market and has already bagged several projects, including Adani project, International Flower Auction Centre in Bangalore, Abhirami in Chennai and the Jaya Cold Storage in Tamil Nadu.

Voltas Limited offers engineering solutions for a wide spectrum of industries in areas such as heating, ventilation and air conditioning, refrigeration, electro-mechanical projects, textile machinery, machine tools, mining and construction equipment, materials handling, water management, building management systems, indoor air quality and chemicals.
