Wipro, Kawasaki sign pact to make hydraulic pumps for excavators

The world's largest independent manufacturer of hydraulic cylinders, Wipro Infrastructure Engineering, today said it had entered into a joint venture contract with Kawasaki Heavy Industries in India to set up a large manufacturing facility for hydraulic pumps for excavators.
Wipro Infrastructure Engineering is part of Azim Premji-led IT major Wipro's global hydraulics business, while Kawasaki is an established global leader in the Hydraulics industry.
The two companies will invest Rs50 crore in the joint venture, Wipro Kawasaki Precision Machinery Pvt Ltd, and will set up a manufacturing unit in Bangalore.
The manufacturing facility will produce hydraulic pumps for excavators in the range of 7 tonnes to 20 tonnes. The plant located at Bangalore will start operations in July 2012 and will localise the production of the hydraulic pumps to a large extent.
"With this partnership, we will be able to expand our product portfolio in the hydraulic segment. The localisation will offer improved time to market advantage and enhanced customer service.'' said Pratik Kumar, president of Wipro Infrastructure Engineering.
The unit will have an initial capacity to manufacture 4,000 pumps, which would be augmented to 15,000 by 2015, Wipro Infrastructure disclosed in a statement.
