Modi, Xi Jinping talk peace on the margins of BRICS summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping met on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS Summit at Kazan on Wednesday where the two leaders discussed the ongoing negotiations for complete disengagement on the border.
The two leaders welcomed the agreement between the two countries for complete withdrawal of forces from the border and resolution of all disputes arsing from the 2020 border standoff.
Prime Minister Modi emphasised the need for proper handling of bilateral disputes, in a way that would not disturb peace and tranquility in the region.
It was decided that the special representatives on the India-China border issues will meet at an early date to explore a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable solution to the border question and to oversee the implementation of measures needed to ensure peace in the region. The issues will also be taken up at the foreign ministers level and other offices so as to restore bilateral relations.
The two leaders underlined the need for stable, predictable and amicable bilateral relations between India and China for lasting peace in the region and for the global good.
Both Modi and Xi Jinping agreed on the need to preserve the multi-polarity of Asia and the world, even as they underlined the need to enhance strategic communication and explore cooperation to address developmental challenges from a strategic and long-term perspective.
