Pittsburgh: Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh has now let it be known that a US-sponsored United Nations Security Council resolution, asking non-NPT states to sign the Nuclear non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), was not directed against India, and also that the US would fulfil all obligations with regard to the Indo-US civil nuclear deal.

''We have been assured by the US that this is not a resolution directed against India and that the US commitment to carry out its obligations under the civil nuclear agreement which we have signed with the United States remains undiluted,'' Singh told reporters at the end of the G-20 summit.

Singh, on a two-day visit to the city to attend the G-20 summit, was responding to a question about the UNSC resolution which asks all non-NPT states, including India, to sign the treaty.

"That commitment on nuclear deal, we have been assured officially by the United States government", Singh said.

The UNSC has adopted a US-sponsored resolution seeking all non-NPT signatories to join the treaty. India adopts the position that the treaty is discriminatory and refuses to accept it.

Asked if there was a bilateral meeting with president Obama, the prime minister explained that lack of time prevented the US president from conducting bilaterals with any leader.
