Nashik: The Army Aviation Corps last week celebrated 25 years of service with a ceremony at the Gandhinagar base here. The ceremony was attended by the Indian Army's chief of army staff, General VK Singh.

Army aviation aircraft Dhruv, Chetak and Cheetah staged aerial demonstrations of their operating capabilities.

Apart from General Singh, the colonel commandant army aviation, Lt Gen VK Ahluwalia and additional director general of army aviation, Maj Gen PK Bharali too were present.

The Army Aviation Corps was raised on 1 November 1986 as an independent aviation arm of the Indian Army.

When asked about reported delays in the procurement of equipment for the corps, General VK Singh said the central government had been apprised of the requirements, but the army had no further control over the process.

Lt Gen VK Ahluwalia said efforts were on to replace ageing aircraft by 2013.
